The Experimental Neurobiology is the official journal of the Korean Society for Brain and Neural Science. High-quality contributions to the journal in all areas of neuroscience are encouraged from any country in the world. Submission of manuscript is understood to imply that no similar paper has been published or is being considered for publication in other journals other than in an abstract form.
Types of Articles
The journal publishes full-length articles of original research, short communications, rapid communications and reviews.
Submission of Manuscripts
An original and two copies of the manuscript with complete figures should be submitted to Onyou Hwang, Ph.D., Managing Editor, Department of Biochemistry, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, 388-1 Poongnap-dong, Songpa-ku, Seoul 138-736, Korea (E-mail: oyhwang@www.amc.seoul.kr). When necessary or requested by reviewers or editors, original photographs should be provided. Manuscripts must be in English, typewritten double-spaced throughout, on one side of A4- or Letter-size paper.
Organization of the Manuscript
Full-length Articles should be divided into Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and References. Acknowledgments may be included at the end of Discussion. Articles for Short Communication and Rapid Communication may not be divided into discrete sections except that Abstract must be included as a separate paragraph.
1. Title page
This should contain the complete title of the paper, a running title of no more than 40 characters including spaces, full name(s) of author(s), institution(s), and the complete mailing address(es). In the case of more than one affiliation, authors and their appropriate affiliations should be matched with superscript of arabic numerals (such as 1, 2 or 3) at the end of each author and before the first letter of the institution. The name and complete mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and E-mail address of the corresponding author should be provided. Three to eight key words must be also included on the title page.
2. Abstract
The Abstract should be a single paragraph clearly stating the objectives, procedures, major results, and conclusions in no more than 300 words.
3. Introduction
This should state the purpose of the work or of the hypotheses being tested. A brief statement of the relevant background that support the rationale of the study should be given, but extensive review of the literature should be avoided.
4. Materials and Methods
Descriptions of methods must be sufficient to allow the reader to judge the reliability and reproducibility of the experiments. The name and location of commercial suppliers must be given.
5. Acknowledgments
The acknowledgments section is placed at the end of Discussion. Personal assistance and financial support may be noted here.
6. References
References are cited in the text by giving the last name(s) of the author(s) followed by the year of publication in chronological, and not alphabetical, order. For papers written by more than three authors, the abbreviation et al. should be used following the name of the first author. For papers written by only two authors, 'and' must be inserted between the two names. If reference is made to more than one publication by the same author(s) in the same year, alpha-numerals (such as a, b or c) must be added to the year in chronological order.
For example,
1) Similar experiments were conducted elsewhere (Hill, 1984).
2) The study of Morgan and Curran (1986) explains...
3) Similar experiments (Chung et al., 1986; Black and White, 1990a) showed...
All references cited in the text must be listed in the References section, in alphabetical order of the names of the first authors. References must be complete with the last name(s) and initials(s) of authors(s) (names of authors divided by a comma), year of publication in parenthesis, title of paper, journal name, volume, and page numbers. Journal names should be italicized and abbreviated according to List of Journals indexed in Index Medicus of the latest edition. References to books should include italicized title of the book, name(s) of the author(s) or editors(s), publisher, and place of publication.
For example,
7. Illustrations
All figures should be in a form suitable for immediate reproduction (not photocopies). Line drawings should be done in black ink on drawing or tracing paper. Lettering should be large enough to withstand reduction. All photographs must be submitted as clear black and white prints on glossy paper (preferably not smaller than 10 x 12 cm and not larger than 20 x 25 cm). Reproduction in color is possible, but authors are requested to bear the extra costs involved. Legends for figures must be typed double-spaced on separate pages. Tables must be typed double-spaced on separate pages with a short descriptive heading and legend.
After Acceptance
Authors must submit electronic diskettes (3.50 inch) of the final version of the manuscript along with one copy of the printed manuscript. Diskettes produced on IBM or IBM-compatible computers using word processing programs Microsoft Word or HWP are accepted (not ASCII). First author's name, manuscript title, name of computer file, and software program should be specified.
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author unless requested otherwise. They should be checked carefully and returned to the publisher by airmail within 2 days after receipt. Only typesetting errors may be corrected; no changes or additions to the edited original manuscript will be allowed at this stage. Reprints may be ordered by completing and returning to the publisher the order form sent with the proofs. Fifty free reprints per article will be made available.
